Unfortunately, we're losing a lot of these guys as their generation begins that sad, inevitable rotation.

I dabbled in collecting original animation cels during their heyday more than a decade ago, and have wonderful remembrances of the works of Chuck Jones, Friz Freleng and Virgil Ross adorning my office and den.

I've also had the privilege of meeting Jones and Ross; nice men who had the sheer luck to find an occupation which they dearly loved. It's unfortunate that some of the producers and studios under which they worked regarded them merely as artistic slaves, Walt Disney being the more-publicized.

I was happy for all of the old animators and artists that cels became so popular, and that they were able to make great money autographing and selling those works to their many fans.

Although the computerized "animations" emerging now are amazing, the likes of Elmer, Bugs, Daffy, et.al. will never be surpassed.
