Calpine Comments On Credit Facility

SAN JOSE (Dow Jones) Calpine Corp. (NYSE: CPN - news) (CPN) is currently finalizing discussions with lenders, and said it is in talks for a new, expanded and secured credit facility that could "significantly improve" its cash position.

Calpine shares closed at $6.83, down 28 cents or 3.9%. Earlier, shares traded as low as $6.15, a 52-week low. Calpine's previous 52-week low of $6.35 was set Friday.

Early Monday, Calpine said it believed its shares were hurt by fears that the company's ability to secure more financing will be hurt by the efforts of California regulators to void power contracts signed last year.

In a press release Monday, the power company said it will "have no further comment on this subject until public disclosure is timely and appropriate."
