ild,

My impression of South African miners is they pay dividends 2 times a year. This is what I have experienced with GOLD, HGMCY and AU; and IMPAY when I owned it. The dividend we are going to receive in March are from profits generated during the last 6 months of 2001. I can not remember when the rand tanked but there was a month or two of profits from the devaluation period. I expect for the dividends to be larger from this current period because they are selling gold in $'s and operating in a devaluated currency. This perception of higher dividends could be fantasy, but it makes sense to me.

edit, Have never owned ASA and do not know how they operate.

Joan
