Extremely low(baely visible) glow inside. My guesstimation is I'm about 800F. Things are going along quite well.

I also just had a thought re: pyrometer. Just two buildings down is a large ceramics factory(though not my type, they do glazing on glass bottles) but I'm half tempted to wonder over there and see if they have a pyrometer rated to 2500F I can borrow. If they were a bunch of artists, I bet they wouldnb't hesitate to offer assistance. Gowever I stopped there once a few years back and most haven't a clue as to the processes I'm involved in. Further, the likelyhood of them offering assistance is slim.

I just talked to someone at matinance at our shop and he's going to check some supply catalogues and see if I can find one locally.

Anyhow, I'm sort of warming to the idea of doing it solely by color. Back in college we didn't have pyrometers and that was a good learning experience. Only thing I didn't like is that often times if you don't have enough fuel burning and put it into reduction it is very easy to drop the inside temperatures which can become problemsome when trying to get it back up to temp p by oxidation and burning out all the colors I am working to achieve.

K, I'm gonna go give it a shot. see if someone there might share my fancy :)

P.S> Kiln is still only on notch 3. Not turning it up yet, but temp is rising nicely. will wait till I get a nice orange glow.

BTW, scored my piece of welders glass. That is key.
