Ampex
> -Back to profitability. Will report positive results for the 4th quarter and 2002 year.

> Ampex Data Systems -headcount down by 40%
> $30 million break/even now

> Real Estate Financing:
> Ampex Data Systems bridge loan (ADS Senior Discount Notes) will be refinanced in large part by a mortgage on the Colorado Springs property. Mortgage should take out most of the bridge loan. Any difference will be refinanced out of royalties. This will lower interest expense by 1 to 1.2 million.
>
> Also Redwood City real estate being refinanced.
>
> Will take Ampex Data Systems off the market for sale. ADS results will be re consolidated back into financial statements.
>
> Expect the qualified accounting opinion to come off for the year end results and going forward. Clean opinion removing “going concern”

Royalties

> Negotiating new licenses on new consumer electronic products. Expect to announce soon. The specific manufacturer(s) will not be disclosed but the products covered will.

> Most confident regarding use of their patents in:

> Digital camcorders-DV camcorders.
> DVD Recorders
> - patents involved based on their DCT products for the professional markets. DCT is what is used to convert film digital for recording DVD disks. Most patents issued in mid 1990s and so have until 2013 on many of them . Essentially has to do with the preprocessing done with video to prepare it for digital encoding, ie. DVD or Camcorders.
> - Note on DVD recorders—PC market will be part of the mix as DVD read/write devices become standard items

> Very confident:
> Digital Cameras-Still Pictures
> -thumbnails (could be deployed on other devices for video indexing,browsing, searching etc.)
> -Camera manufacturers standardized thumbnail technology allowing picture transfer between different companies product etc. The Standard used is based upon Ampex patents.
>
> Less sure-
> DVD players—since it is a read only device,
> preprocessing not necessary but they believe other patents of theirs are used but a little more difficult to prove.
>
> Internet Video technology-
> 3 patents applied for- none issued yet
> - 2 patents pretty much limited to internet video - 1 however has broad application—has to do with variable compression schemes for parts of a frame of video-allows for more space to be allocated to more complex visual aspects of a frame and less to simpler parts on a real time basis.
>
> - declined to make a projection on what royalty income could grow to. Current recurring royalties about 8 million a year. IF things work out, then double or triple royalty income.
