I have always been in favor of an all volunteer military...unless every single citizen is required to serve as a condition of residency. "...but believing that their deaths will save the freedoms of the people... This implies purpose and if there are provisions for conscientious objectors, I might support it. If such a choice existed, I would offer my life if it would give freedom for even one person vs continuing my life on the backs of the oppressed. Of course I realize that is easy for us old guys to say, since it is the young who are usually subjected to this kind of choice.
