NEWBURY PARK, Calif.--Semtech Corp. today reported a 6% sequential increase in sales to $46.4 million in the company's fiscal fourth quarter, ended Jan. 27, compared to $43.7 million in the prior three-month period. The company's sales were 33% below $69.6 million in the same quarter last year.

The supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors posted a net income of $8.7 million in the just-ended period vs. a net income of $7.7 million in the prior quarter and $17.6 million in the period a year ago.

"The sales growth and stronger-than-expected gross margin expansion enabled Semtech to achieve sequential improvement in net income of 13%," said Jack Poe, chairman and CEO of the Newbury Park company. "The growth in sales was led by our power management products, which increased 24% sequentially. Power management products sold into the desktop, telecom and gaming markets increased 20%, while power management products sold into the portable marketplace increased 56%," he said.
