Globe says Bennett soars to 52-week intraday high

Wed 27 Feb 2002

The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, Feb. 27, edition that Bennett
Environmental soared Tuesday to a 52-week trading high of $21.45 on the
Toronto Stock Exchange before settling back to close at $20.75, up 65 cents
from the previous close. The Globe's Carolyn Leitch writes that Tuesday,
Desjardins Securities analyst Mike Amar reiterated his "buy" rating and set
a 10-month to 12-month price target of $26.25 a share. Investors who bought
a year ago have seen a return of 369 per cent. The stock has gained 49 per
cent in the past two weeks. Earlier this month, Bennett posted a profit of
29 cents a share in the fourth quarter, compared with a loss of 11 cents
the previous year. Mr. Amar said the company is cost efficient, with few
competitors and high profit margins. He added that the change in Bennett's
financial fortunes came about after Quebec established regulations
requiring soil to be decontaminated before it can be placed in landfills in
the province. Mr. Amar said the stricter laws helped Bennett increase its
revenue to $10.1-million in the fourth quarter from $2.1-million in the
same period last year.
