One of the things that I see in these announcements is that we do not yet know who the leadership in Provo will be.

In my recent work in organizational theory, when you analyze effective teams you have to measure the level (quality and quantity) of the communications within the team. This also includes the direct visibility of leadership within the team!

What we are seeing, IMHO, is the initial changes being made in management at the top of Novell, and in Provo specifically. We now can see that more leadership is going to be coming from Cambridge.

All of this *could* be good, however I will suggest that if we do not see leadership emerge in Provo that is dynamic, visionary, and visible then we will not see the value of this new leadership reflected in the stock price, now productivity of the company.

It's great that something is different, however I will look forward to hearing how that difference will be reflected in Provo ... where the bulk of the engineering is going on ... not in Cambridge.

Leadership, IMHO, has to be constantly visible to the employees ... something that has been missing at Novell ... and not something that can be done "remotely" from Cambridge. Under Messman and Stone, there must be a new leadership team that emerges in Provo ... IMHO. ;-)
