John “Does anyone know what the price premium for RMBS RDRAM is vis a vis DDR which evidently won't do the trick beyond 2ghz. According to Pricewatch this morning”

RDRAM 512MB $134
PC 2100 512MB $119

RDRAM 256MB $66
PC 2100 256MB $54

RDRAM 128MB $33
PC 2100 128MB $29

With the P4 RDRAM is dual channel and RDRAM modules must be installed in pairs. Therefore 256MB of 128MB RDRAM modules is 2x 33 or $66.00 which compares to $58.00 for 2x PC2100 128MB.

From my own experience RDRAM is a hard to find item and the above prices are only available from certain internet vendors. For example RDRAM at Comp USA is much higher and RDRAM is not available at retail stores such as Best Buy, Circuit City, and Office Depot.

RDRAM still remains at a premium although no where near what it used to be.

All I can say is that I am using RDRAM and like it. I have a very stable P 4 system and streaming is very good. I am ready for the 533MB bus as well but I can’t figure out when Intel will be coming out with the 850E (?) chipset. Mike McGee said expect it in May, Tom says the fall.
