MQM says ISI behind Pearl murder -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, February 27, 2002 (London):
Pakistan's ISI is behind the murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl and should be "disbanded", MQM, the third largest political party in Pakistan claimed today.
"The ISI and only the ISI is behind this barbaric killing of Daniel Pearl because the ISI wanted to give the message to the US that by supporting the present government, the US will not be able to achieve its goals and it must deal with the ISI and not with anybody else," Dr Imran Farooq, convenor of MQM said.
In a communication addressed to Kofi Annan, UN Secretary General, Farooq said, "The ISI is responsible for harbouring the terrorists' not only in Pakistan but also throughout the world under the pretext of 'Jihad'.
The ISI is not at all happy with the decisions taken by the present government for eradicating religious fanatics, as they are its own creation."
Stating that ISI has become a monster, he said "until and unless the ISI is disbanded or dismantled, it will continue to form, fertilise, harbour, train and provide financial support to create more and more religious fanatical groups like Jaish-e-Mohammad and others." (PTI
>Is the Pakistan general staff really "whisky drinking" secularists? Is my understanding that many of them hold Islamist convictions mistaken? I got this impression from Pakistan media....
Are the mullahs really puppets of secularist generals? And if this was the original setup are they still puppets and do they collapse if their strings are cut, or is there another puppeteer waiting to manipulate them, or will they dance on their own? Some of the ideology floating about that part of the world is virulent. > |
