I dislike the idea of genetic manipulation intensely. I think of "Brave New World" as an example of what can come of it. On the other hand, I have no objection to eliminating actual genetic diseases. (The method of creating a number of embryos and screening them, with most to end in the trash, I object to). It seems to me that the ethical rule has to be that such genetic manipulation is only used against recognizable diseases. However, the genie is out of the bottle. Someone rich enough will get a designer baby. Repugnant though it might be, at least it will limit the potential for widespread social ramifications......
