<font color=orange>Intel Developer Forum Spring 2002 - Day 3

anandtech.com

Anandtech does day 3 of IDF. Some interesting comments about Prescott. Apparently, it will contain micro-architectural enhancements.

"- 0.09-micron (90nm)
- additional micro-architectural enhancements
- Hyper-Threading on desktops
- shipping in second half 2003"

Also

"The move down to a 0.09-micron process should allow for even greater clock speeds, including achieving that 4GHz on a Prescott core next year. The additional micro-architectural enhancements are purposefully made vague at this point, however there has been some speculation of a handful of additional instructions for the Prescott core."

I'll open the rumor mill floodgates with this one. Yamhill, SSE-3, or whatever, Prescott's going to be slightly different than just a Northwood shrink with Hyperthreading.

H2 2003 is a long way to wait, though, and Hammer may beat it to market by 3 quarters. Still, the thought of an improved Netburst core is intriguing....
