Jewel,

That seems imminently sensible to me. I'm having the hardest time figuring out what good they are to the rest of us. They spend all their time playing "let's make a deal" and visiting the compensation boutiques that spring up to create ever more devious ways to rip off the system. It's pathetic, really. And so corrosive to the faith of the common man in this system of exploitation.

Along these lines, two items, first:

WALLSTREET JOURNAL SAYS US TAXPAYERS COULD BE FORCED TO FOOT THE BILL FOR PENSION PLANS THAT LOST MONEY FROM ENRON'S COLLAPSE

A report in today's Wall Street Journal says that US taxpayers could be forced to foot the bill for pension plans that lost money as a result of Enron's collapse. The Journal reports that if Enron's pension and employee stock ownership plan are found to be illegal, the pension plan would then owe million of dollars to participants. If that happens, the federally backed Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation could have to step in and pay the plan. The cost will then be passed on to US taxpayers. Enron is not commenting on this story.

And finally, some comic relief:
