While I'm far from an expert on Saudi publications, I do believe that al-Sharq al-Awsat is one of a stable of Saudi-based and owned publications designed for homesick Saudis living in London and elsewhere abroad. While it would be nice to believe that the strange mea culpa was the start (my fanciful thought) of coordinated dumping on Arafat in connection with Friedman's opportune visit with the Crown Prince, that would be a mighty stretch. New subject: Have you seen any reaction yet on Syrian or Iraqi reaction to what's in the Crown Prince's drawer? Meaningful or not, it's likely to cause some heartburn for young Assad.
