re: The Roadmap - GSM Operator Requirements for Features & Services

[see pevious post]

Heck of a roadmap for GPRS.

Everything is WAP 1.21 next 12 months - no WAP 2.0

Everything is mapped to UMTS FOrum 3G Requirements.

Operator Requirements for Features & Services Document (68 Word pages - 485kb).

>> Executive Summarry:

The E2E Taskforce was initiated by the GSMA to provide Roadmap of Operator requirements for Features and Services.

This PRD forms the first output of this taskforce, establishing an umbrella definition of a set of common services that Operators would like to see implemented.

The Taskforce is now focussed on two of the services identified in this document

– Location Based Services and Multimedia & Messaging Services, and is now drafting “Service Implementation Guides” for future approval by SERG. The objective is to identify the gaps and bottlenecks, which would prevent easy implementation of these services, and includes a major focus on interoperability and roaming issues for each service,

This PRD documents a list of common services, and begins the analysis of which Features and which Enablers are required to implement each service. This document is an overview; future documents will need to provide much more detail on each service implementation.

The following eight Service Containers are identified, and key Services defined for each Service Container.

* Communication Services
* Customised Infotainment
* Location Services
* Machine-Machine Services
* M-Commerce
* Multimedia Services & Messaging
* Mobile Office
* Public Utility Services

The feedback from Operators is that their major requirements over the next 6 months is to focus on the following seven services:

* Location Tracking
* Point of Interest
* Road Traffic assistance
* Multimedia Messaging Service
* Customised Information Service
* Mobile Office Service
* Unified Messaging

This PRD represents the first step in the definition of a common set of services that will help create non-fragmented global mobile services market. <<
