The article was about the assessment valuations coming out March 1st this year, and does reflect what is happening here with the real estate market. There is very little for sale in my neighborhood, and I get frequent letters from real estate agents looking for houses to sell. Our "budget shortfall" would be envied by any other state, because we have reserves in the bank to cover it. However, on a longer term basis your caution is merited. Alaska is now taking a hard look at re-instituting the income tax. And yes, tourism is down since 911.
