<the point of balance of trade statistics>

CB, I agree, there is no point. $s go round and round and if somebody holds a bunch for a while [Japanese] they earn interest. To worry about a trade deficit with Japan is ridiculous. A $ goes from Uncle Al, to Japan to Saudi Arabia to China to QUALCOMM [taxed and given back in part to USA tax people] and me! I use it to buy Globalstar. Globalstar gives it to marketing people who invent a stupid marketing plan. They pay taxes on that $ [so more of it goes back to the original source] and put the rest in a parking meter [collected by San Jose city]. There could be a vast trade deficit with Japan and still all the money flows back to the USA and the government in the circle of life.

As you say, trade deficits are irrelevant.
