On the Intersil board, there is a post stating that Intel is designing a 802.11a/b chipset that allows interoperablity between those two respective networks.

That is a formidable engineering challenge. If accomplished, Intel will have a "marketing" challenge, since they will be attacking the dominant supplier of 802.11b chipsets on their home turf.

This battle ground will be fought in the notebook and handheld markets. Perhaps Intel can incorporate this "chipset" in their new venture, the design of low powered computers, as shown several posts prior to yours.
