Yahoo! tried for condoning war crimes

Internet portal Yahoo! s former president could be jailed if a French court finds
him and the company guilty of condoning war crimes for selling Nazi paraphernalia
over the internet.

A French criminal court agreed to hear arguments that Yahoo! was inciting racial
hatred when it ignored an order from the French government to stop selling Nazi
books and memorabilia. Ex-president Timothy Koogle could face up to five years in
jail and a fine of E45,700 if found guilty.

In 2000, France ordered the US company to bar French citizens from access to the
sites, but a US federal court judge ruled Yahoo! was not obligated to follow French
law. However, the French court ruled that its country s laws could still apply to
English-language sites.
