That is a very interesting phenomenon with the Harvard undergrads. Thinking about it, I can see how the relentless focus on academic achievement as well as the "right" sports and social service activities, can result in an underdeveloped ego strength. Literally, all your goals are predecided for you and you don't develop the strength that comes with convictions-- taking a stand on something that may be unpopular, etc.
