MSFT investors,

The following is from Briefing.com on the Air Force deal:
______________

08:30 ET ******

MICROSOFT CORP. (MSFT) 129 9/16 CLOSED. Software giant could receive a big boost this morning as the Air Force is expected to approve a five-year contract that would allow Softway Systems' OpenNT software as a substitute for the UNIX operating system. If so, this decision by the Air Force would create another outlet for the sale of computers with the WindowsNT operating system. According to Softway Systems, a privately held concern, its software runs on Windows NT servers and workstations and allows users to operate UNIX and Windows applications on a single terminal. Its software makes it possible for companies to continue to utilize its current hardware platform and run these two different operating systems. The terms of the five-year contract
would allow Software Systems to provide up to 37,000 workstations with their software, but ifother government agencies decided to take advantage of the contract, this figure could be much higher. To make this application possible, Software Systems has partner with Hughes Data Systems, a unit of Hughes Electronic Corp. (GMH 59 5/8). One company that could get hurt by this potential contract is Sun Microsystems (SUNW 37 1/8), the main provider of UNIX systems to the Air Force under an existing contract. Thus, expect the shares of MSFT, GMH and SUNW to be active this morning as investors make-up their minds on a possible outcome and ramification of this deal
on the UNIX operating systems.
