I am not sure I am following you.
What do mean by "how much HT was enabled", and
what the "old core" means?
Also, it is my humble understanding that thread
switching always happen no matter what, since the
OS is inherently multi-threaded and run 50-100 threads
anyway, time-shared.

More, "...does not mean that there were no hyperthreading-related
optimisations that were enabled in the Northwood core"

Which optimizations ???
I think it is either "enable" or "disable" the feature.

I think the matter is clear. The valid test must be as
follows:
1. Take a dual-p system with ONE processor, disable
MP support, install OS (which will show up as a single
processor system), run benchmark;

2. Take the same system, enable MP support in BIOS,
change the kernel and HAL.dll to their MP variants,
run the same benchmark;

3. Compare results. ;-)

Very simple.
