Hi Laz! Congrats on a new thread that has certainly had tons of action on day 1! ( If this becomes a post, I guess for the time being, I am not banned?)
I can't help but wonder, after reading that great article on J.H. girls, and spending many years working with that population, if we are not still part of the J.H. mindset. They have their cliques, they vote kids in and out because they say the right things or the wrong things, because someone in the group likes them or doesn't, and unsubstantiated rumors become fact. Are we not doing the same thing?
Aren't we all adults now? Does what C.H., bia, or YYB and whoever else? say offend us so much that we must not only take our ball and go home but change the ballfield and not allow these "undesirables" from entering our new space? Isn't this a place where ideas and opinions, no matter how outrageous, can be exchanged in an anonymous forum?
I know that there are those that have felt attacked and "stalked" by others. But aren't all the participants here adults who can look at the behaviors of others and dismiss nonsense opinions without feeling threatened?
It seems that we are back in J.H. again...and, when we feel threatened, we call all of our friends to support our cause. We can't focus on the future but must regurgitate the past. As far as I know, no one who writes on SI is a preteen...and shouldn't be supported as if they were.
Life is too short. There are tons of problems that are discussed on these threads that make us more informed adults...dismissing people from discussions is juvenile.
Just my humble opinion... Marie |
