Gypsum will clean odoriferous water, but too much gypsum is a laxative so take care. 500 Mg /litre is the max. Culligan has a filters series that does not use reagants that may do the job. Silver filters have been shown to reduce bacteria. He should get a company to demo it and test the water before installation. Of course they charge extra for the consultation.
