<Recession? What recession? The markets received a double-dose of surprisingly positive economic data on Thursday that left some economists wondering whether or not the U.S. is even IN a recession. A startling surge in the fourth-quarter Gross Domestic Product numbers blew away consensus expectations for economic growth, and challenged assumptions that a recession has been underway for at least several months. Adding to the eye-popping data, the Purchasing Management Association of Chicago's index of business activity indicates that business is expanding - the first such reading in 18 months.
