My comment was in no way connected to the career change from ice dancer to engineer forced by physical infirmity, madam.
But let me pose this question: Why IS a "sport" whose judging is totally subjective in the Olympics? Is anyone surprised that that "sport" is scandal ridden given that the judging is subjective?
Now I know the real answer: Because without it, such as you would not even know the Olympics were underway, and if the Olympics are about anything, they are about money.
But compare ice dancing to say, the 100-meter dash or (picking a sport I actually know something about and have the wounds to prove it) sailboat racing. In those cases, there are pretty objective rules for starting, running the race, and it can be determined who crossed the finish line first. If that person (or boat) violated none of the rules for starting, running, and finishing, they won. Period.
Now how does that compare to a bunch of judges determining whether your spinning leap in the air rates a 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10? |
