Thanks for the ball. I'm running straight up the middle on this one.

>>BTW, what are SAP's ADSL plans?

Nothing announced. One year ago nobody even knew what ADSL was, so its time for me to check in with the guy incharge of networking again. From my own perspective, once SAP understands what's happening they will be all over it like ugly on an ape.

The following is MY opinion and does not represent the view of SAP.

***SAP will carry considerable influence on corporate America and the world.

In my department, I already see an immediate need. One of the things we do is remote diagnostic analysis on three tiered client server systems. To do this we establish connections via X.25 or Frame relay. The connections are often times unstable and slow (due to noise and other factors) where we then have to send somebody for a site visit. (Contrary to our departments original vision). Reliable service to South America is very difficult and -painfully- slow.

A respectable percentage of all SAP customers subscribe and are heavily reliant on these services and will buy at SAP's recommendations. I think it is incredible how many X.25 and Frame relay connections SAP was responsible for. I am a first hand witness on this.

Now, again MY opinion, that if SAP tells their customers to buy a DMT modem to obtain service, they WILL buy a DMT modem. IF they tell their customers to buy a CAP modem, they will buy CAP modems. Will SAP support either??? I don't know. I think it is too early at this point to predict. Do I see SAP maybe leaning to one side, either CAP or DMT. Yes. If they select only one technology I think it will be DMT. (due to the European Telecoms only supporting DMT)

Aside from remote services, ADSL will permit SAP customers to utilize their system from anywhere they can get a connection. Their system will feel like they are sitting right next to their main computer. This will make a big difference to those companies who have bought our product to integrate ALL their offices scattered around the world.

For those that don't know, SAP is the undisputed worlds leader, in integrated business applications software.

That's it for now -
Tscheuss,
Eric
