Part of that is supported by the fact that QCT revenues were essentially flat 1Q '99 to 1Q '01 (up about 2%) from 352 to 359 M$.

However, if the thesis "CDMA = Qualcomm revenue, one way or another" is true, then wouldn't we expect to see QTL licensing jump?

But it only went up by 20% over that period, from 178 to 211 M$

I'm not following your numbers very well. Do you mean 1Q '00 to 1Q '02? I am using fiscal years.....

Here are the numbers that I have for that period

QCT QTL
1Q '00 352m 184m
1Q '02 359m 211m

A 15% increase in QTL's revenues during the period. The QTL revenue was effected by an approximately 10% drop in ASP's.

So I suspect that the licensing terms aren't really a flat percent of sales. I suspect it's a tiered structure with other nonlinearities built in.

JMO....but if you do reach this conclusion, I would probably stop doing further research on Qualcomm. The only way this is true is if Q's management has blatantly misled (and probably lied) to it's investors. No reason to invest in a company if you believe that management lied on such an incredibally important issue.
