Sure, there is posturing, and it is unusually inapt in the Enron matter, which should be investigated for criminal wrongdoing.
However, there was no quiet alternative to the Clinton matter. Clinton made sure that that was true. And, frankly, as he dug himself deeper, it became even more necessary to not let him get away scott free. The White House, under his direction (he certainly did not call it off), began its nutty'n'slutty attack on Monica (the nympho stalker). Poor Betty Currie became a sacrificial lamb, both emotionally and financially. Larry Flynt was cheered on to blackmail whomever he could to further obstruct justice. Cabinet members vouched for Clinton. A phalanx of supporters was sent out with talking points, many of which were simple lies, such as that one couldn't have unobserved sex in the Oval Office. Stories, more or less credible, floated to the surface about Clinton's assaultative propensities. The guy needed to have that smirk wiped off his face, to find out that he could not use people like that and get away with it...... |
