(NasdaqNM:MSFT - news) co-founder Bill Gates holds a 5.45 percent stake in wireless communications operator Nextel Partners Inc. (NasdaqNM:NXTP - news), according to a regulatory filing on Friday. Gates disclosed the passive investment position, equal to more than 9 million class A common shares, in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. It did not say when he acquired the shares or at what prices. Nextel Partners is a regional affiliate of Nextel Communications Inc. (NasdaqNM:NXTL - news), the nation's fifth largest wireless operator. Its shares were down 19 cents, or 3.5 percent, to $5.17 in afternoon trading on the Nasdaq.
