"My question is, has the question been raised as to whether females get their sexual desires catered to also? This is a not unimportant question in practical terms, and symbolically, imo."

Your concerns are noted. Yes the question is raised often. The Quran is presented primarily in the male voice and references males more than females. There are some conditions one has to recognize in order to consider religious text (even for non-believers). One condition is we are talking about stuff beyond the physical/temporal universe. Yet, we are limited to our experience of understanding things in the physical universe we are bound to. In our universe there is a duality for conscience beings of sexuality. God is not a specific sexual being, yet the pronoun He is commonly used. If you can imagine a Heaven where women are treated in any way that is demeaning or unfair why would you want to call it Heaven; since the premise is that heaven brings pleasure and reward beyond imagination and that is perfect.

So, IMO the information in the Quran that references males is also applicable to females unless specifically targeting the role or activity of men. Why does it have to be male referenced? There are scholars that like to explain that in detail. My answer, it just is.

I think you could do a good job of criticising Islam based on a sound understanding of the real religion as believers see it; as apposed to the silly stuff we read in the media or the pop jocular criticism which have a credibility cost.

Bottom line...Islam, which is founded on Truth and Justice as a path to Peace must be fair to ALL creatures down to the smallest gnat or it is a false religion. Can you argue "from the believers perspective" (which means you have to convince me) that unfairness exists in even one phrase (in context) of the Quran?
