It's important who spells out the rewards for the lay person, though, I would think. It's the contract they're signing, in a way: If I live this way, these rewards await me....

I'm sure that for the jihad martyrs, the very specific paradisical rewards such as beautiful virgins weigh heavily in their decision to blow themselves to smithereens.

It would be unfortunate if females made great sacrifices in earthly pleasure for a presumed reward in paradise and didn't get it, or, conversely, were promised lesser rewards for virtue than are really available in paradise and failed to make the sacrifices they might have to attain them.
