Hi LLLefty; Re: "Because the intifada has turned into a War of Attrition (caps, W,A) which is what the Israelis cannot accept and sustain indefinitely at this level."

So far, the intifada is not at all a war. It's more along the line of "mild domestic unrest". Israel can sustain that level of violence forever, as can the Palestinians.

A truly unsustainable war of attrition (like WW2) kills at least 0.5% of the population per year, and is only sustainable for a short time. (Germany held out for 7 long years.) That works out to something like 600 per week out of a population of around 6.5 million Israelis. The current level of violence is a tiny, tiny fraction of that.

P.S. I hate it when people exaggerate levels of violence. To put this into perspective, the Holocaust took the lives of considerably more than 20,000 Jews per week and it went on for years and years. This is serious stuff we're talking about.
