The children I teach are eager and excited to learn the lessons I have to teach. I can't imagine them being any better than they are. If you are exciting and interested in your material, I think almost no child can resist you. I have taught teenage continuation students, and even they can be infected with enthusiasm. I compare the children of today with the ones I grew up with, and I find the children now are better behaved, more informed about the world, and much more interesting than I remember my peers being. They are also nicer to each other. This may simply be the difference between the blue collar neighborhood I grew up in, and the mostly professional community I live in today. I've no way to know.

Children today have less respect for adults generally (I suspect), but I find they have a great deal of respect for adults who treat them with kindness and who respect their intelligence. It is no very bad thing to have children be less deferential and more questioning of authority, imo. Not everyone wants attitude in children, but I love it!
