Yes X,
SI is a big distraction, but I view it like the comics, or the sport's section to get the scores..
But progress is so much more important, when it comes to personal progress.. I don't know.. I guess SI, the comics, the sport's scores all help.. All contribute. in their own relative way..
I have a passed on uncle, with a IQ of close to 200, I would guess.. He went to UC Berkeley when he was about 16 from a very rural high school in NE Washington, quite a feat.. He dropped out after a year or two.. Went to Chicago.. Got a great job, Dropped out when he was about 40.. Came home to the old home place.. Sat around the rest of his life... NO progress as I could recognize.. Maybe he did in his own way.. I don't know.
He once told me when I was about 12, I was asking about baseball scores.. He didn't know,( I should have realized).. He told me, "If you fill your head with baseball scores, you won't have room for anything else".. It hurt me for a long time..But I thought about it.. And then, I realized, he was WRONG..
The more you do, MENTALLY and PHYSICALLY, the more you CAN do.. I know..For sure, I think <gg>. And many people become narrowly focused, IMO, maybe to rationalize a lazy mind and body.. I don't know.. "Different strokes for different folks " . There is no right or wrong IMO.. It is just the way it is..
The potential is unlimited,IMO, mentally and physically.. Because it is all relative..<gg>
