No because they often have a very self contained framework for which they strive to understand their specialty... when inside the framework your statement is true, when outside they tend to look at the counter party in the discussion as if he/she had 2 heads.

Conversely those who have a broader view of many topics the "intellectual" may specialize in often just stand back and take in some information and ignore the rest while not getting overly involved unless he/she deems the topic of particular relevance.
