For those who haven't put a kid through college in recent years, the numbers will shock you. I speak from experience. I'm currently on the 6th year of nine straight years of paying college tuition, dorm fees, etc.

The bottom line is: If you're middle class, forget about any help from Uncle Sam (or the school). College is a breeze if your parents are indigent or worked for Enron in upper management.
