Cultural imperialism? Gimme a break. Nobody is shoving Big Macs down French throats at gunpoint. Or forcing their kids to wear Mickey Mouse watches.

Last time I looked, the baby-formula companies were handing out cans of baby formula in the third world and telling the women it was better for their babies. Their milk dried up and when they couldn't buy the milk, as predictably many would find themselves unable to... well, too bad for the ill-nourished babies.

It's not "imperialism" in its spirit, it's free enterprise. It's just that people will tend to do what it's profitable for them to do.

Big Macs taste good and are cheap and satisfying even if they do give people heart attacks and the companies know it. I believe it's not the companies' responsibility to remove fatty foods from the shelves, but listing ingredients plus public education seems like a good idea.

But the baby formula deal? It stinks.
