Actually, in some whitebox comp retail stores there is only a 20% delta between prices of rimm-800 and pc2100 sticks. In the more aggressive ones, they claim 'all' their pc2100 sticks can be overclocked to 2700, but this is doubtful as there needs to be material changes to the pcb to improve stability and noise @333MHz.

I have yet to see rimm-1066 or rimm-4200 yet. It should be interesting to see the prices on them when they do show up. They have to be cheap or else.

Note however this is a simple supply and demand exercise. The demand for ddr (because of operational issues on the box makers as they almost completely switched to ddr/sdr on the bulk of the non-wkstation systems) have accelerated ahead of supply, and people in the supply chain think that the consumers no longer have a choice but to pay whatever they ask. The box makers who negotiated a contract price a few months ago are releasing boxes with that price in the bom. Their new prices will be different, which may give them reason to switch back to rimm (may), but that takes a few months.

The increase in price of sdram is likely due to rapidly decreased supply and yesterday, I saw < 10% delta in the stick side to ddr.

As for why rdram prices are stable and decreasing, we all know what the projected supply picture looks like, so oversupply isn't the reason. We also know what the retail picture looks like in terms of systems being sold today in the stores, so that leaves ... ... ... (draw your own conclusions).
