I suspect Mr. Edelman's client base has been declining somewhat with the growing disinterest in stock market investing, and he's worried about the rising money flow into paying off mortgages, which so many other investment gurus are recommending.

Whether a mortgage is a good thing depends on the individual and his own financial situation---nothing more, nothing less, really. Really irked me when I read his comment that he was "about to save us so much money" with his advice. Sounds like Cramer, through and through.
