Venture Shares Rise on 2001 Profit, Expansion Plans (Update2)
By Linus Chua

Singapore, March 4 (Bloomberg) -- Venture Manufacturing Singapore Ltd. shares surged to a one-year high after the island's biggest maker of electronics for companies such as Hewlett-Packard Co. beat analysts' 2001 earnings forecasts.

Venture's profit rose 28 percent to S$134.7 million ($73.4 million) in the year ended Dec. 31, exceeding the S$115 million average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Bloomberg News. Indicated earnings for the second-half rose 21 percent to S$79.2 million. Earnings were released after the market closed Friday.

The results put Venture ahead of competitors as it is one of few electronics parts makers that had profit gains and expects manufacturing orders to rise, analysts said. The company is also expanding following one of its first acquisitions, allowing it to capture a bigger share of manufacturing orders from rivals that have fired workers and shuttered plants.
