By Seyoon Kim

Seoul, March 2 (Bloomberg) -- Samsung Electronics Co., Hynix Semiconductor Inc. and other chipmakers may raise computer memory- chip prices by as much as 10 percent, the Korea Economic Daily said, citing unidentified industry officials.

The chipmakers will begin negotiations with personal computer makers next week and raise prices by 5 percent to 10 percent, the paper said. If the prices are raised, 128-megabit dynamic random- access memory chip prices will top $5, the paper said.

The increase may be a signal the worst is over for the semiconductor industry and may reflect a possible rebound in demand from personal-computer makers.

Korea is home to two of the world's largest computer memory- chip makers, Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest, and Hynix Semiconductor, the third largest.
