AT&T Wireless Cuts 2002 Forecast; Buys Out Venture (Update7)
By Jonathan Make

Redmond, Washington, March 1 (Bloomberg) -- AT&T Wireless Services Inc. reduced sales and cash flow forecasts for this year after the third-largest U.S. mobile-telephone company trimmed prices to win customers. The company also is paying $285 million to buy the rest of a wireless venture in Philadelphia.

The company said wireless sales, excluding its purchase of TeleCorp PCS Inc., will rise by a ``low double digits'' percentage. Growth will be in the ``low teens,'' spokesman David Caouette said. The shares fell 15 percent to a record low.

Chief Executive John Zeglis, like his rivals, is boosting free minutes to gain or keep business as subscriber growth slows. Customers' average monthly bills for local calls have fallen 22 percent since 1994 to $45.56 last year, according to the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association, a lobbying group.
