US data will continue to be the focus of bond investors' attention this week. In particular, they will be looking at the key monthly labour market report, which is due to be released on Friday. Any significant change in unemployment or non-farm payrolls could confirm or disavow a number of strong economic indicators that sent bonds lower last week.

On Monday, eurozone investors will be focusing on the release of the February business sentiment, consumer sentiment, and business climate surveys.

By mid-morning, bond investors could be in a better position to determine the extent to which the eurozone is following the US down the path to recovery.

Analysts say a sharp increase in medium-term supply may weigh down the eurozone government bond markets. In the next few days, Spain will issue a new 15-year benchmark worth €3bn to €5bn. On Thursday, France will auction €6bn to €7bn worth of 10-year notes.

"The amount of supply coming in this week is not dissimilar to that which we saw in January," said Sean Shepley, a bond strategist at Credit Suisse First Boston.

"Then, the markets got through it unscathed because they had already made concessions for it the previous month - this time it could be different," he said.
