hmaly, Re: "so Quantispeed will have to be readjusted."

If QuantiSpeed were a reliable measurement to performance, then it wouldn't need to be readjusted. And that's just the problem that I have with it. AMD found themselves in a precarious situation when they realized that consumers would tend to stick with megahertz as a metric for performance, while Intel's CPU was going to scale in frequency a lot more than theirs. So they rush at the last minute some kind of approximation, and of course it's going to sound great, because it's all they have, and it's better than comparing Pentium 4 megahertz to Athlon XP megahertz.

By all accounts, I agree with everyone here about megahertz being a poor measurement of performance across CPU lines. However, the problem is that nothing is being done about coming up with a *better* metric. Instead, AMD just wants to approximate their performance with arbitrary numbers that aren't even empirically calculated. You say that it was always meant to be an interim solution, but what has AMD done to further their goals towards a common measurement? There has been no proposed solution; no consortium started; no announced meetings; no rev 0 spec. Any of the things that you would usually see preceding the birth of an industry wide standard has not yet happened. I don't know about you, but I have a problem with that. The last thing that I think that would help the industry is to replace a senseless measurement (megahertz) with an even more senseless measurement (QuantiSpeed).
