Zealots of any religion who become consumed with hatred have lost their faith. I am not a poet by trade and with some hesitation, I am posting this poem I wrote as a teenager.

Once there was a chip of wood,
one the world could have understood.

But because the world was filled with hate,
the chip of wood was turned to slate.

Alas my friend we are alone you see,
a chip of wood you and me.

We are all "chips of wood" from the same tree and to allow hatred to blacken our hearts is nothing less than failure to understand the gift of life we all share.
