It has happened before quite often, and just as those short give in and cover, it delivers a whipsaw. My preference, as you know, is to only play one side (the long), and simply go heavy in cash when I think (as I did last week, apparently, wrongly so) that the market is still weak. That way, I lose some opportunity to "make" profits, but do not risk losing too much. Right now, you got to watch the prelunch lows at around 1830/5 or so, if they are breached later this afternoon, there is a good chance that a counter move (to around 1790 o so?) could be under way. The bear case is not renewed unless we close under todays' low at 1789 or so.
