Blue-chip stocks streaked higher Monday, boosted by hopes the U.S. economy will stage a strong recovery. The Dow Jones Industrial Average soared 217.96 points, or 2.1%, to 10586.82, its highest close since July 19. The rally followed a hefty 262.73-point rise on Friday. The Nasdaq Composite index added 56.58, or 3.1%, to 1859.32, after vaulting 71.25 in the previous session.
Other major stock indexes also raced ahead. The Standard & Poor's 500-stock index rose 22.06 points to 1153.84, the New York Stock Exchange Composite advanced 10.26 to 598.89, and the Russell 2000 small-stock index was up 9.66 to 488. -- WSJ
