You raise a great point. I think Hammer will have to be much better than the Athy was over the P3. And the key point is that it must be significantly different in it's approach..ie. x86-64. And that approach must be more desirable than Intels....IA-64.

Even then, look how long SUN remained strong even after they had an inferior platform....

It will take more than just a superior product to chew more into Intel...a nice paradigm shift is what's needed.
